Checklist for a New Windchill Installation

To complete a new Windchill installation, perform Steps 1 through 6 before proceeding with postinstallation steps.

Note that you must install the required third-party products before installing Windchill. There is one exception: the Oracle database can be installed with PTC.Setup before you install Windchill Foundation. Due to configuration dependencies, the third-party products are to be configured after the Windchill installation.

In the lists below, the book and chapter number are indicated at the end of each sub-step in parentheses. The letter represents the specific guide,and the number represents the chapter number.



Step 1: Review the Windchill System Requirements

If you have not already done so,
 1. Apply the applicable operating system patches. (I-2)
 2. Review system memory and disk space requirements. (I-2)
 3. Plan and design your Windchill and third-party product hardware requirements. (I-2)


Step 2: Install the Required Third-Party Products

 1. Install the Web browsers and servers. (I-3 for non-AIX) (I-4 for AIX)
 2. Install the Oracle8i Release 2 software (do not create the database). (I-5)
 3. Install the Java Development Kit (JDK), that is, the required java virtual machine (JVM). (I-6)
 4. Install the servlet engine with Java Server Pages (JSP) support. (I-7 for non-AIX) (I-4 for AIX)


Step 3: Install the Windchill Products

This list represents the CD-ROM titles of your PTC products. (I-8)
 1. Install Foundation and PDM (required).
 2. Install Documentation (optional).
 3. Install Customization Factor (optional).
 4. Install Engineering Factor (optional).
 5. Install Sourcing Factor (optional).
 6. Install Product Planning Factor (optional).
 7. Install the Info* Engine Server (optional).

Note: You install these optional Windchill applications either manually or with a Wizard: Universal Classification, Manufacturing Planning Factor, Info*Engine Database and Directory Adapters, and ProductView.


Step 4: Create the Oracle8i Release 2 Database

 1. Create the OracleOracle8i Release 2 database, user schema, and Windchill objects. (I-9)


Step 5: Configure the Required Third-Party Products

 1. Configure the Web server. (C-3 for non-AIX) (C-6 for AIX)
 2. Configure the servlet engine. (C-4 for non-AIX) (C-6 for AIX)
 3. Configure the Web server for authentication. (C-5 for non-AIX) (C-6 for AIX)


Step 6: Configure the Windchill Server

 1. Convert to support multi-byte character sets (optional). (C-7)
 2. Load the Windchill database with the test data. (C-8)


Postinstallation Activities

Step 7: Start the Windchill Servers

 1. Start the Windchill Server Manager. (C-11)
 2. Initiate the Windchill home page. (C-11)


Step 8: Create the Boostrap Files

 1. Create the bootstrap files. (C-12)


Step 9: Apply the Web Browser Upgrades

 1. Apply the Web browser updates on the Windchill client systems. (C-13)
